What we are asking the ACT Government to do

Fair interstate travel support

Canberrans can pay an average of $160 a night above the accommodation subsidy when travelling interstate, exceeding $4,000 over a month. Call on the ACT Government to strengthen and modernise the Interstate Patient Travel Assistance Scheme:

  • Increase the accommodation subsidy to $160 per night, covering at least 70% of typical costs.
  • Increase the private vehicle subsidy to 45 cents per kilometre, or increase the flat Canberra-to-Sydney return rate to $250.
  • Introduce annual indexation for travel and accommodation subsidies.

Improved support for interstate treatment

  • Strengthen IPTAS and navigation support so Canberrans can access interstate treatment without additional barriers.
